About Our Facility

The Dog House Retreat is a small, family-owned, state licensed, boarding facility within the owner’s home. The kennels are custom made, in a climate controlled, indoor space with luxurious vinyl floors. Spacious enough for giant breeds or multiple family dogs, ranging in size from 20-25 square feet. Each kennel is cleaned and disinfected by hand prior to your dogs arrival. Our facility is nestled on private property where the fully fenced play yard spans two acres-a dog’s dream! A retreat for your dog while you’re away and truly every dog’s home away from home.

Alisha has a bachelor‘s degree in psychology from Missouri State University and has over 20 years of experience in dog boarding and behavior. She was mentored by a reputable boarding kennel owner/professional handler in St. Charles for 15 years. Her mentor passed away in 2015 and Alisha cared for her beloved pack of Irish Wolfhounds and Greyhounds (pictured above) until the last one crossed the rainbow bridge in 2020. Alisha also has a close relationship with her veterinarian and has relied on him as a mentor, influencer and friend.

After such a loss to her family, Alisha decided it was time to continue pursuing her passion for dogs. Her husband, Caleb, custom built and designed the kennel with Alisha’s vision in mind. Established in March of 2021, “The Dog House Retreat” represents their home which was inevitably referred to as “The Dog House” (the house with many dogs).

Alisha is knowledgeable about breed specific behavior and pays close attention to detail which she knows is important in order to provide individualized, quality care. She has experience with breeds of all sizes, senior dogs and dogs with specific behavioral needs or health concerns. Alisha and Caleb treat each dog as their own and are devoted to providing compassionate, attentive care in a clean and safe environment where every dog can feel comfortable to enjoy their stay. They are growing rapidly and hope to expand in the future!

Abby is a kennel attendant and has experience providing care for dogs of all ages. She is knowledgeable in breed specific behavior and enjoys quality playtime in the yard interacting with the dogs. Abby also attends college at Lindenwood University, coaches club volleyball and spends any free time she has with Wilson, her yellow lab. She has a passion for working with animals and truly loves her job. 

Kierstyn is a kennel attendant and is also certified in specialized training. She attended training school at The Academy of Pet Careers and also aspires to become a groomer in the future. She applies her knowledge in reward-based training and obedience in order to provide specific care based on each dog’s needs and behavior. In her free time, Kierstyn enjoys trap shooting competitions and loves practicing training skills with her yellow lab, Kojo. She is enthusiastic about working with dogs and assures every dog is happy and comfortable during their stay!
